Easy Care Ground Cover
Talking of pots & containers - if you are looking for a low growing ground cover to grow round the top of your container plants, the new Arabis 'Old Gold' could be just the plant for you. This neat little cushion forming plant is a complete darling in spring when the colourful gold & green cushions are topped with elegant clusters of pure white flowers. (Can you believe this is in the same family as the humble broccoli.) Completely trouble free in either sun or part shade. Grows together nicely to form a complete weed suppressing mat. Fully hardy. 0.02 x 0.25m
A Kaleidoscope of Spring Colour
Our next exciting plant is Abelia 'Kaleidoscope'. This colourful compact selection is brought to you from America where it is proving to be a real year round landscape beauty. Arguably at its absolute best in early spring when the cool winter temperature (and lets face it we have had plenty this winter) has transformed the foliage into the most amazing Kaleidoscope of red orange & bottle green. Wait only of few more weeks & the technicolour foliage will be complemented by delicate white with blush pink bell shaped blooms. A real asset to any early season garden & totally hardy. I guess we could go as far as to say, you could plant it on Mount Cook!!!

Native Structure / Hedging & Topiary
For those of you who like a more structured garden but are over the dreaded orange that English Box (Buxus sempervirens) turns in our often wet & soggy winters, I think we have just the native plant for you. Pittosporum 'Elfin' is a petite growing form of our native Pittosporum tenuifolium. Selected by Faye Portman at Clarvelle nursery in Carterton, 'Elfin' beautifully forms an elegant minimum to no trim, small step over hedge for the potager or flower garden. The foliage of this selection is a soft silver green, which is a beautiful neutral foil for near all colour combinations. Very easy care, one trim in late October will keep your hedge in tip top condition until next year. After trimming we recommend a feed with Osmocote slow release tree & shrub fertilizer.
Magnolia 'Genie'
KiwiGold is all about bringing you simply the best plants for your Kiwi garden. Magnolia 'Genie' is a perfect example. 15 years in the making, 'Genie' is the ultimate small growing floriferous dark flowered Magnolia for NZ gardens. The luscious buds start to burst open from mid August. With generally 6-8 flower buds on a one year old field budded plant. By year two you can reliably experience dozens of blooms. In fact some of the trees in our commercial trials had over 100 blooms in their second year. This is a superb tree where space is limited as 'Genie' has a tight pyramid habit. Ultimately growing to 3.5m high in 10 years by 1.5m across. Come on over to the dark side & plant one of these beauties in your garden. You, your friends & family will enjoy 'Genie' every spring for years to come.
